Welcome to Smooth Talking Food

My name is Michelle and I’ve been on a quest, researching what is the best food for your health. I’ve found that this is not as simple as it sounds. Through my research, it was easy to find books and documentaries around this topic but in the process, I became confused by all the contradictory information. Eventually, I became frustrated. I didn’t know what to believe and decided that I’d simply make an educational decision and develop my own eating lifestyle to the best of my knowledge.

This blog is to share, debate and educate each other as to what is your opinion on which food is best for your health by discussing books, documentaries, etc.

Bread is basically a processed food. It is always best to avoid these. Energy for your body comes from starchy foods such as rice, potatoes, corn, etc. These along with fresh greens and vegetables should be the foundation of a good eating plan.

Years ago, I heard that eating whole grain breads was incredibly important (I believe that it was Dr. Oz who said that it was much healthier than white breads and made you feel full quicker, thus making you eat less). Recently, on a kick to make sure I was buying healthy foods for my son and myself, I made a huge effort and spent a lot of $ on ensuring everything that came into our house was whole wheat and grains. During this time, I have been slowly packing on some pounds. I thought it had to do with women issues and began eating more plant based foods, but still eating my daily bread. I lost some weight with the plant based foods initially, but lately began to pack on pounds again. I also developed some headaches like I had never experienced before. Then very recently came across “Plant Paradox”. I read about these lectins and WGA in whole grains and, so far, knowing this has changed my life. Furthermore, it made lots of sense because in Europe, they always eat bread and stay skinny. While I do eat mostly plant based, I still eat my daily bread. Except instead of the whole grain, I made my own white bread. In just a few days, I have noticed a HUGE difference. The first and foremost, my debilitating headaches…GONE!!! I am not sure if the weight will come off, but my pants already feel looser because my stomach doesn’t feel bloated. I am still working my way through the book and will keep you posted on weight loss. Mainly, I just feel so much better.

Is multigrain bread as bad as whole wheat bread? What can you use instead if you love bread?
